were held at The Madison Square Garden, New York City.

“Mas Oyama was the First Asian to give an impressive demonstration, crushing granite rocks, snapping bricks, splitting boards with this bare hands - feats were startingly unusual to American audiences back then”More:

“Former Marine, Gary Alexander Standing right (see pictures) with Mas Oyama after winning the First Oyama North American Karate Championships. It was later that year that Alexander initiated an “International” winning streak when he also won the First 1962 Canadian Open Karate Championship”

This was an Oyama event open to all Karate fighters Full Contact only

(no Kata) and was held in Madison Square Garden, NYC in 1962
