Competition area for Karate and Bo Jitsu

Competition area:
The competition area is a circle with an 6 meters inner and 8 meters outer diameter.
The inner circle (white) is the actual battle field. Stepping outside this circle warns the competitors that they are close to the outer circle (red). When this circle is crossed the referee interrupts the match.
Space between the competitors (starting position) is 2 meters.
Referee are identified by the NIKA emblem on the left sleeve of their gi. Head referees must be at least a black belt.
Regulations:
The referee grants an Ippon for a technical knock down (almost knock out) and waza ari for each effective technique.
Without contact no points are given and the match will be continued without interruptions.
At knock out of one of the competitors, the match is interrupted for 30 seconds.
Without recovering within this period, the opponent is called winner of the match.
The match takes normally 2 minutes and during interruption the time is stopped and extensions are admitted twice. Thirty seconds before the end a signal is given.
When the match is extended twice, the decision is made by the following items:
- one of the competitors has scored (the most) waza ari
- a warning was given
- the number of stepping outside the red circle
- comparison of fighting technique, agility, power and spirit
